Hi there. Yep. Once a very long time ago we used to know each other. I was the author of the ‘Betwixt and Between’ blog, you know, before life got busy and I lost my way. I don’t mind telling you, at the end of last year I seriously considered giving up scrapbooking in all of its forms. I was so drained of inspiration and I felt like nothing I was coming up with was particularly innovative. I felt like I had really hit a wall. Then at the 11th hour I got an email from Studio CalicoΒ asking if I would be a part of January’s Documenter Workshop. I hadn’t done a Project Life spread in over 6 months, but on the other hand they really weren’t asking much. A single PL spread and a couple a paragraphs on how it came together. Pretty simple really. The day my Β kit arrived I leafed though the cards looking at all the designs. If I were actually selling you this kit, this would be the part where I’d tell you – “they were all so pretty” and they were, but honestly it was the large amount of well designed journaling cards that took my eye. I got to thinking about story telling and life with Eva. You see ever since Eva was born I’ve been struggling to include more words in my pages. As a person who has always been about design first, story second it’s a difficult new balance to strike.

I gathered the photos for my spread and left my Studio Calico pouch out on my desk. Then, that night as I went to bed I thought of all the possible variations there was to tell our story with this kit. Each time I woke up during the night to feed Eva, I thought about it some more. Then as the sun peaked through the blinds a little after 5.30, I bounced out of bed. I was FINALLY inspired again. When Eva woke up at 8, I was just putting on the finishing touches to the spread. It was the most pleasurable couple of hours I had spent in my studio in a long time and that’s why I am back here. I am returning to my roots.

So while this is not the spread I created for the Documenter Workshop, this is second spread I have made with Studio Calico’s January Documenter Kit,Β a few little stickers from the Maggie Holmes ‘Shine’ Sticker Pack, an old flair from a Scraptastic Kit and a digital stamp from Ann-Maire Loves Paper. So without further ado:

I know you can’t make out a single detail when I photograph them together, but look at the balance across the two pages makes me so happy.

Week One Left Side by Aimee Dow

Pink, Green, Black, White and Gold was my palette for this spread.

Week One Right Side by Aimee Dow

If this weeks spread had a theme it really would be summed up with the ‘Dreams Do Come True’ card. We had a brilliant start to the new year. CJ had the week of work, so it meant a lot more happy little excursions than normal. We spent a lovely afternoon at the botanical garden, exploring the fairy garden, playing on the swings and trying out Eva’s new trike that we got her for Christmas. I can not even begin to tell you how hard it was to choose just one photo from that little adventure.

Week One Detail 2 by Aimee Dow

On Wednesday CJ suggested with walk to our local cafe for breakfast. This cafe is super hip… and super packed. By the time we got breakfast, it was lunchtime and poor little Eva ready for a nap. She never even made it half way home on the trike. CJ had to carry her home. Once again a million photos of the super cool cafe but the one of her asleep on CJ’s shoulder was my fave.

There was also the small matter of a the heat wave. It had been pushing 40 Celsius all week here. There was A LOT of time in the kiddy pool, time on the couch with not much clothing, watching cartons.

On the weekend however, we really partied from one end of the scale to the other. Eva’s best friend turned one. Linc’s mother and I were friends in birthing class last year so I think it’s totally fair to say they were friends before birth. Then that evening we travelled to visit Eva’s Poppy who turned 79. Needless to say that was a much more subdued affair.

That pretty much wraps up our week, but before I go I at least have to share a pic of my favourite card. It has the same saying on the back in the same color scheme if you don’t love the green. I personally do.

Oh Studio Calico, teller of the truth. So here’s to the new year, new chances and a whole lot more Project Life.
