Citrus Twist Kits: Once Upon A Time

I’m over on the Citrus Twist blog today with a trip down memory lane.

Once Upon A Time by Aimee Dow

I don’t know, there is something about turning 31 that’s turned me all sentimental. I took this photo months and months ago. It’s of an old pie factory in my home town. It’s been closed for years and set for demolition soon, but I remember a time when it was buzzing with people. I think I would have been about 6? I remember going with both my pa’s to pick up pies for the soccer and swimming clubs. It’s got me thinking about geographical history. Should this be a topic we cover more in our family albums? Food for thought I guess.

The Spotlight Tour Blog Hop & A Big Freaking Giveaway

If you follow me on Instagram, you may just remember way back in March when I traveled across the state to meet Amy Tangerine and Heidi Swapp?

Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset

The event was put on by Spotlight Australia to help celebrate their national craft month, and I must say to my mind it was an epic success. I had so much fun at these events, I meet new friends and I got to play with products I would not normally even consider buying. I also got to meet scrapbook royalty and I am not just talking about Heidi Swapp and Amy Tangerine.

In the scheme of things I have not been in the scrapbooking world too long. In fact just over two and a half years now, but in my time I have come to know some really amazing Aussies such as Natalie Elphinstone, Kim Jeffress and Leeann Pearce. All three are flat out superstars in my eyes and I was beside myself excited meet them in person. (Also, I’m not going to lie, I REALLY wanted to have a hold of baby Judah 🙂 It was SO good to meet these amazing women in person and as we continued to talk after the event, we decided to hold our own blog hop!

The idea was pretty simple. We would all scrap a photos taken from the event, but to make things a little more fun for our readers we decided to include a giveaway. Not just any giveaway, a giveaway of epic proportions! But to do that you need a pretty awesome sponsor, enter: SPOTLIGHT! First, before we go in to details about that let me show you my page.

Ironically, this might just go down in history as the quickest and most refined page I have ever done. I don’t usually use pattern paper for the background of pages, but this Heidi Swapp paper is my all time favourite. I’ve been hoarding like a kid hoards halloween candy. I felt deep down though, that it was time to let go. I mean if you can’t use it for a page that is ABOUT Heidi Swapp when can you use it?

I used the grid theme that was already going on in the pattern paper to build my page. I cut my title (with the silhouette) and mounted it to gold glitter paper with pop dots to give it some demention. kept the embellishments really simple. I didn’t want to detract from my photos.

All it took was a few gold glitter Heidi Swapp sentiment stickers and I was happy. Well almost. I tried to type a tag with the days highlights but it just didn’t fit. In fact by the time I finished journaling I had 600 words… oops. In times like these I all was attach it to the back of the page, which works out really well because the back is really cute bows!

Alright, alright now for the part you have all been waiting for – The Giveaway.

Spotlight have been kind enough to donate $100 dollars worth of products to each of the four blogs to give away as we see fit. The rules and prizes will vary from each blog to blog so make sure you read each blog post carefully.

This is what I have been given to giveaway. I will be breaking it in two to create a first and second prize. First prize is only open to Australian entrants, Second Prize is open to anyone from anywhere. I will post in-depth photos of both prize packs tomorrow both here on the blog and on Instagram. The giveaway is open until 8pm Wednesday night Australian time!

To enter all you need to do is:

Be or become a follower of mine on Instagram and leave a comment below about anything you have seen or read in todays post. Please be sure to leave your Name, which country you are from (so I know which draws to enter you in) and your Instagram username. That’s it, its really that simple.

Your next hop is:

APOCD: Partners in Crime

How many layouts can you create about your cat before you are considered a crazy cat lady? Five? Ten? I’m guess 20 is really stretching it, right? This is only my second – (The first being Sunshine, Books and Cat), but I feel like this is something I should probably keep in mine for the future. Some days I think we should just hurry up and expand our little family, so I will FINALLY have someone else to photograph… and then I remember how much I like my free time.

Oh speaking of free time I am over on the A Piece of Cake Designs Blog again today. I am hosting Friday Favourites, along with Felicity Wilson who has put together a really spectacular Mini Album. It’s well worth checking out. You can find all the details of my page over there too. I am SO proud of myself! The only thing I used on this layout, that is NOT in the main kit is the black paint.

I hope you all have a really great weekend.

A Piece of Cake Designs: In My Studio

Hi! I know it seems like there hasn’t been much going on here lately, but that’s because I am taking part in big exciting things going on, in lots of cool places all over the internet. Yay! Take today for example: I am over on the A Piece of Cake blog teaching everyone to make this really awesome watercolour background. I’d love it of you came to visit me… over here 🙂

Since your here though I thought I’d share the story behind this layout with you. To be honest when I started this layout I had no idea it was going to be an open letter to a dear friend. My goal was just to knock out a layout from the most recent APOCD main kit. It certainly wasn’t going to be a hard task, the kit is amazing, but as I began to think about a concept, my thoughts drifted to Olya and her recent departure from the ‘Get Messy’ gang and while I don’t do ‘messy’, I wanted to let her know her pages still inspired me. So here it is, the layout inspired by watercolour genius and good friend of mine, Olya:

Next time we go back to nice clean lines. I promise. Unless you like this sort of thing? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The Good Life

Just popping in with a layout I did for no particular reason at all. I really like this layout. I was made to celebrate a very rare occurrence – breakfast out. Oh and don’t look now, but there’s a picture of my husband. Not smiling, but then again a girl can only be so lucky. Once upon a time, when we lived by the river we used to go out nearly every weekend for breakfast. My husband even proposed at our favorite cafe at some ungodly hour of the morning. Since we moved and hubby now works weekends, we never get the change anymore.

This is also my first layout from the recent Penny Arcade kit’s from Studio Calico. Just in case you were wondering I got the Main Scrap kit, Skeeball, Fortune Teller, Spun Sugar and High Striker this month and while I am in no way a kit killer, I did pretty much stick to the kits contents with the exception of a few enamel dots, the yellow loved banner from Crate’s Oh Darling and a sheet of 6×6 Dear Lizzy which I fussy cut the flowers out. Oh and the Marcy Penner spray paint trick. Can’t forget that.

If you have any questions about which kit anything came from or a technique feel free to leave it in the comments, I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Oh and if you don’t here from me tomorrow have a great weekend.
