APOCD: Strathdale

This layout was originally created for APOCD. I know it seems like it has no meaning and it’s just about a new supermarket, but to me it’s a lot more than that. My grandparents have lived in the same house since before I was born. My Nana has been gone from this earth just over 10 years, but my Pa keeps the house exactly as it was while she was still alive. When I was very young I remember the area being considered the outskirts of town. Now, however, it’s really desirable because it is only 10 minutes from the city centre. In August this year, one of Australia’s biggest supermarkets opened a store at the end of Pa’s street. He was SO thrilled! His excitement was compounded even further by the fact that Anna’s boyfriend is a manager there and managed to get Pa in to the exclusive opening gala, where he got to speak to the Mayor. Sadly, I missed the whole shebang, but Pa took me to see it the following day. I don’t often get to see Pa that excited, so it seemed to me that that alone deserves a page.

APOCD: Love Love Love

Hi! Happy Monday! I am super excited to be kicking it off with a new layout that looks nothing like anything I have ever created before. I’ve been a little creatively stuck lately. I feel like I’ve been falling back on the same designs over and over again, so I decided to try something new – actually I tried a lot of new things. If you would like to know what it was that shook me loose, head on over the the APOCD to see the full post. If not, just sit back and enjoy the pretty pictures.

One Little Bird: My Husband Bakes

Just a quick little post today. I know, I say that a lot and then it turns out to be about the length of my first-year university assignments. It’s a problem I am working on. The good news is if you want the whole story that would normally go with this layout, you can still read it! All the pretty pictures and details can be found over here on the One Little Bird Blog.

I must admit I am so spoilt when it comes to CT work. Everything Peppermint creates is amazing and I am so lucky to have free reign over all of her collections. My stint with Gramercy Road is technically finished, but I just can’t seem to put it away. Any photo that has the slightest amount of brown and I’m straight back to it. It also sorta helps that hubby kinda likes it too. And by that I mean I think he is just relieved that photos of him are being scrapped in more masculine colours.

It’s fun to change things up from time to time.

Have a great day!

Hello Christmas Goodies

Yay for the weekend! As I write this it has just gone 7 pm on Friday night. This is my absolute last commitment before I can kick the weekend into high gear. I am going to hang out on Instagram, bake, read, scrap for fun and work on my One Little Word album. It’s going to be so great! I guess then that it’s a good thing today’s post is a short one. Hello Christmas Goodies is the final layout I submitted¬†to¬†American Crafts. It was created to replace a layout that I was really unhappy with. All of my projects were due in on the 27th of December and the photo for this layout was taken on the 26th. So that gives you a pretty good idea how close I came to the wire. It took me maybe an hour to create and while it’s pretty simple, I really love it.Hello Christmas Goodies by Aimee Dow

The photo is of the gifts my husband bought me for Christmas. He did SO good this year. I was over the moon with all his presents. When picking the papers for this layout, I knew I wanted to keep it pretty simple, so I picked the copper/gold coloured papers to match my new headband and the aqua because it really popped against the red cookbook.

I sewed alternating strips of the gold papers to the aqua swirl to tie the center piece in with the border and to create some height. I then chose gold embellishments to drive my colour pallet home.

The final step was to mist one of the Dear Lizzy Serendipity die cut words (in a rather haphazard manner) and add some journalling.

I am not going to lie, I totally played up the rustic look on this one. I find this is a style I pull off really well when I am in a hurry. ¬†The Bee’s Knees is another example of where this style worked in my favour. Sometimes I just can’t get over the side of me that wants everything to be perfect, but for this layout I was really striving for something different from the first two. The thing that astonishes me the most is that if I had to pick a favourite among the three of them, this layout would be it.

That’s it folks! I hope you have a fantastic weekend. If you have anything exciting planned or you have a question or comment, be sure to leave them below.

Fun & Fearless

Fun and Fearless by Aimee Dow

Welcome! Today I am showing off the second layout I created for the American Crafts guest slot. It may not look that different from the first, but I assure you as far as process goes, this was a big fat experiment for me. I didn’t go into this layout with a plan at all. I picked a photo of Leianna that I thought would match the collection and then I just… played around. I forced myself to use thickers rather than word art, which is a big staple for me.

I really struggle with title work, but I am rather happy with how this one turned out. It’s got good contrast and proportion compared to the back strip.

I moved away from the clusters of three that I usually work with and focused even more on the tiny little details – stitching being a big part of that.

I played around with tone on tone. This is perhaps the thing I am least happy with. While I love the look, I don’t feel like I did a really great job of highlighting the photo. If I had my time again, I probably would have picked a paper with a high level of contrast to back the photo.

This is my favorite stack. I love contrast and the sprinkles paper. Everybody should have sprinkles paper.

Last but not least, I wanted to show you my pin wheel. Dear Lizzy’s Serendipity collection doesn’t actually include them, but it was a page about a carnival! How could I not? I made this one with a two inch square of paper, a foam circle and an enamel dot. So that about wraps it up for me, I’ll be back tomorrow to show you the last of my American Craft’s layouts, but if you would like to see the full supplies list, just head over here.
