Altenew: September Release Blog Hop

scrapbooking

Welcome! Welcome! Did you have fun over at Flora’s Blog? Girls got wicked talent, that’s for sure. Phew, been awhile huh? Fear not you’re almost at the end and I’ll try not to hold you up too long. I just want a share a super quick layout with you and spend a couple of moments telling you about my favourite things in this release – The Bold Alphabet Die Set and The Sea Shore Set of Inks. Don’t get me wrong, all the other dies and inks are awesome too, but if I start talking about them we’d be here forever. So on to the layout!

aimeedow_sundayinbed

The inspiration and photo for this layout dates back to late last year. I was 7 months pregnant and we were experiencing the first heat wave of the year. I was tired and hot ALL the time. You required a great deal of bargaining power to pursued me to do anything. So my husband graciously offered to spend his Sunday hanging out with me in bed under the air-conditioner for the entire day. We even had food delivered for dinner and dinned in bed. I think we both kinda knew our days like these were coming to an end. I think only a week or two later CJ started a new job that required him to work weekends and Eva was born another month after that.

Turns out I was just waiting for the perfect Inks and Collection to come out to scrap it.

aimeedow_sundayinbed_detail1

I started off by stamping my background with the Floral Shadow Stamp Set in both the new Ink Colours – Lagoon and Emerald. I was trying to create a floral pattern you might find on bedding. I would like green floral bedding. All 4 of the new green inks are perfection. I have been waiting forever for the perfect bluey-greens, so you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll be seeing them a lot in my up coming layouts.

I then used the brand NEW, super AWESOME Bold Alphabet Die Set to cut my title from the Amy Tangerine Oh Happy Life 6×6 paper pad. I was looking for prints in the pad that would make good duvet covers. Fair warning: I’m probably going to use these to death too. I’ll never have to buy another set of thinkers (*maniacal laugh*)! I laid the letters out like disheveled bed linen and ran it though the sewing machine. Then I added a few tiny little, morning related details with the Oh Happy Life puffy stickers.

Last, but not least I fussy cut a few flowers out of an Amy Tangerine paper and popped them up on foam tape along with my photo and that’s how my bed inspired layout came together.

Sweet Funny Baby

scrapbooking

Happy Easter! We are having an awesome weekend celebrating Eva’s first Easter or at least I am because the only way my darling daughter is eating chocolate is if I get to first – I won’t fill in that mental image for you. I did promise though, that she can eat as many as she likes for breakfast next year during a particularly hairy moment where I was trying to pry a brightly coloured foil confection out of her hand (which I may have put there for photographic purposes) as she desperately sort to cram it in to her mouth. Hopefully we both forget by this time next year or better yet she doesn’t learn to read my blog by then.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I’m hosting the Citrus Twist Sketch Challenge this weekend. You can find it over here.

Project Life Week 2

project-life

And I’m back. No seriously, I’m super stoked with my PL spread this week. Ever since Eva was born I have felt a little off my game. Which is really weird because prior to her being born I knew my own style in side out. I’m chalking that up to baby brain and sleep deprivation. Any who, this is how I rocked Hip Kits February Kits:

The Left Side in closer detail:

And the Right Side:

AimeeDow_Week2_RightSide

Not going to lie – it’s all about Eva again. At 5 weeks old we were only just beginning to hit our stride. It was also the first week I took Eva out of the house by myself.

AimeeDow_Week2_Detail1

I…eh…developed a nasty habit of internet shopping on my phone during late night feeds. This week alone saw 2 kikki-k orders and a Go-To skin care order. Turns outs though it wasn’t really a problem. As soon as Eva started feeding less during the night, I shopped less (WIN-WIN!). On a design note this whole layout is structured around a single piece of Pink Paislee Paper.

AimeeDow_Week2_Detail2

Funny story – see the ‘Live Fresh’ cut apart. it’s actually hiding a cushion of the exact same colour underneath. We use it all the time to prop the blind out so the metal bar at the bottom doesn’t hit the wall in the breeze, but it’s a much better photo if you don’t see it. In fact that’s my tip for today: Be mindful of the background in your photos, but if you can’t just embellish over the imperfections. Even if it is smack bag in the middle of the photo.

AimeeDow_Week2_Detail3

I knocked up these quick filler cards with the b side of that original piece of Pink Paislee paper and the cut apart sheet. I love when you can show opposites in the same layout. WORK HARD to illustrate my hubby putting up Eva’s port-a-cot. I got to give the man props, those things a ‘challenging’ at the best of times. It’s even more so if you have never even seen one before. The PLAY HARD is paired with yet another pic of both of them playing on the floor. Truth be told, I have a million of them. I love photographing the two of them interacting.

AimeeDow_Week2_Detail4

This would be a really cute photo, if it was just a photo. Anyone who knows our cat knows she doesn’t have a protective, loving bone in her body. Actually there has been some mention of her being a vessel of unholy evil. Many were worried for bubba’s health. Turns out Mica doesn’t give a rats behind about the little human. She prefers to be in any other room if Eva’s being noisy, but other than that Eva may as well be another piece of furniture. This being a prime example. My mini title comes from a cut apart that said “Ignore the Critics” and some really great alphas in the Amy Tangerine sticker book from the February Hip Kits Project Life Kit.

AimeeDow_Week2_Detail5

Remember my story about late night shopping? This instagram tag was cut from the band around my brand new Kikki-k planner arrived in the mail this week. I love up-cycling packing. It like free pretty paper!

AimeeDow_Week2_Detail6

And there you have it. I wish I could take all the credit, but February’s Hip Kits were pretty awesome. So until next week my scrappy friends – go forth and create!

Project Life Week 1

project-life

Welcome back to yet another year of Project Life here on the blog. This will be my 3rd year and yet it feels almost brand new again. Since Eva was born my scrapbooking really has taken on new meaning. In short ‘More Stories, Less Time for Design’. Don’t get me wrong – I’m still going to cram in as much design as I can, but only in nap hours.

AimeeDow_Week1_FullSpread_O copy

This month I’ll be rocking February’s Hip Kits:

AimeeDow_Week1_LeftSide_WebEdit

Oh and maybe a little digital stamp, *cough* and some brilliant Lora Bailora tape that happened to arrive the same day as my kit and I just couldn’t resist trying it out.

AimeeDow_Week1_RightSide_WebEdit

All in all Week 1 was a CRAZY week. I was still trying to figure up how to be a mum, when my Pa took a tumble down some stairs and fractured a few ribs. Once in hospital things took a turn for the worse and Pa suffered a collapsed lung, pneumonia and kidney failure. I’m happy to say after a week in ICU he managed to turn it round. Oh and if that were not enough our closest friends moved to the other side of the country. So much for a slow start to the year.

AimeeDow_Week1_Detail1_WebEdit

I took the colours for this spread from this picture of Eva. It may not be the best photo, but I just love my squishy, warm, sleepy baby cuddles first thing in the morning. It was a complete and utter fluke that the first book I read to her matched her binky. Hip Kits had a great mix of products this month too. Crate paper…paper, fantastic Amy Tangerine Thickers, Maggie Holmes stickers, Studio Calico Veneers, but my favourite by far is the Shimelle Chipboard.

AimeeDow_Week1_Detail2_WebEdit

Oh and all the Pink Paislee C’est La Vie Goodness! In fact that’s my tip for this spread. I hid the journalling about Pa’s hospital stint under a flap I created from a C’est La Vie cut apart sheet (Card on the right).

AimeeDow_Week1_Detail3_WebEdit

My favourite design feature is this really simple card I made with Amy Tangerine’s ‘Better Together’ paper, A Maggie Holmes Bloom Heart and a banner I made myself. I love the mix of textures and it took 5 minutes to make.

AimeeDow_Week1_Detail4_WebEdit

This however would have to be my favourite story. Did you know, scientific studies show that parents are less happy after having kids than before? There are a ton of other great upsides to having rug rats such as joy, self-forfillment, pride, etc. Personally though I LOVE being a mum and I can honestly say, even on a trifecta day (You know, the days where your little charming bundle of joy manages to vomit, sneeze usually with a mouth full of breast milk, pee or poo on you) yeah you guessed it, I got all 3 in one day, I am genuinely happy in my new gig. I think part of the reason is that I am making an effort to mark these happy moments.

Oh and if you want to get your hands on this months Hip Kits or next months seen here:

12592498_10209070932716181_4460113668803224993_n

I’d love you to create along side of me. That and you NEED all the awesome Pink Fresh Felicity collection and Basic Grey’s Saturday Morning.

The day my heart exploded – Eva

scrapbooking

Been awhile, huh? I know, I made plans with you all for December Daily, but you know what they say about the best laid plans? Yeah… Meet bubba Eva. The original plan was to push though until the 21st and catch up on the last couple of days when life found balance again. In reality I got as far as the 4th. On the 5th CJ and I went into the city to the twilight Christmas market. I took a ton of photos before coming home and getting ready for bed. I lay in bed thinking about the kind of layout I would make and “POP”! My waters broke. Thus began an adventure like no other. One day, I might come back and tell you all about it, but right now I’ll just share the second layout in Eva’s Album.

AimeeDow_Eva_Instagram

This was created for the Citrus Twist’s Sunday Sketch Challenge about my new favourite subject matter. In fact I may never scrapbook about anything else again!

AimeeDow_CTDEC_Eva_Detail1

I count myself really lucky to have had an instant bond with our precious little mouse. From the second I saw her, I was head over head in love.

AimeeDow_CTDEC_Eva_Detail3

It’s a little hard to tell from this photo, but the only thing Eva got from me was that nose. Everything else is all her dad. From the thick full head of dark hair to her very long legs.

AimeeDow_CTDEC_Eva_Detail2

I struggled with the journaling on this page. I love the concept of the typewriter and in a way it kinda saved me. All of a sudden I have SO MUCH I want to write on a page. I have a million things about the 7th that I want to tell her. I want her to know just how amazing her dad was for all of the labour, even though he had only 3 hours sleep. I want her to know about the midwives who were so fantastic and how freaking proud I was of myself to make it to 7cm with only Panadol, but I’m not sure yet where to even start. For now I just settled on the facts. I typed them up on a strip of cardstock and made a small cut between the rollers of my fussy cut typewriter so it looked just like a working typewriter.

AimeeDow_CTDEC_Eva_Detail4

A small amount of stitching and stamping bought the whole thing together. I’m not usually a sketch person, but I am super happy with how this one turned out. I would even go as far to say I am happy to put it in her album. Partly because the design is awesome, but I also have a feeling there will be a need to balance out ALL the pink layouts in her future.
