Project Life Week 7.

Oh yes, moving week.
20130617-230835.jpgThis layout covers a massive week for CJ and I. We moved ourselves and I swear upon all that is holy, I will never ever do that again. It didn’t help either that we only had a week from the day we found out we were approved to the day we took possession of the property.20130617-231524.jpg This was also a new beginning for me as I received my first Studio Calico kits. It took me awhile to figure out how to incorporate certain elements of the kits into my spreads. Filler cards were particularly challenging because I felt like I didn’t have enough space for all my photos and journaling, let alone a cute card.20130617-232157.jpg I love this card. Partly because my dear friend cooked dinner for my whole family, on a week I was struggling to make cheese toasties. Mostly though, I love the simplicity. It’s one of the few hand drawn accents in the album too.20130617-232642.jpg The Studio Calico kits introduced me to new techniques. This was my first attempt at misting. It’s a very simple silver mist through a chevron mask. I do like the effect.20130617-233207.jpg I will let you in on a secret, I know there was a huge fuss over this filler card and everyone was after it, I am not overly taken by it. I jumped at the opportunity to use it because it is not often my two favourite people are in the same photo and it matched my colour theme.

Tea with you.

Happy Monday everyone.20130617-171925.jpg This photo perfectly represents the week I have had – no time to sit down for tea. I have had two sick relatives to take care of. One in my own home and one on the other side of town. I’ve been going back and forth all week. Thankfully both of them are on the mend, so I can tackle my mammoth to do list.

Today I managed to finish last weeks Project Life and it is already to be photographed for Instagram and Facebook tomorrow. All the photos for this weeks blogposts are done and edited. Now I just have to write them. We have guests coming all next week so I really need to get on and finish decorating the spare room. Which leads me to this weeks inspiration: Fete Magazine.20130617-172736.jpg This quarters volume has some absolutely brilliant ideas for entertaining in winter. In particular two great stories on having a curry night and winter dinning around a fire pit. I love curry and I know one of our guests do too. His wife not so much. So I think we shall probably try to make our own s’mores as laid out in the magazine. I’ve always wanted to try a s’more.

Our song today? I’m feeling Indie. Lets go with Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men.

Crazy busy morning!

I’m exhausted and it’s not even noon.
20130614-111655.jpg┬áToday is my Anna’s birthday! She’s still staying with us, so the lucky duck got breakfast in bed. There is 8 years difference between Anna and I. The age difference has given me the great privilege of watching her grow out of the terrible teenage years and into an adult that I have great respect for. Welcome to your twenties Anna Spanner. I’m so glad you don’t have the urge to eat cereal off the carpet with the cat anymore.20130614-115242.jpg Benson (Pa’s husky) and I have also had a trip to school this morning for pet show and tell. Mog thoroughly enjoyed showing off her part-time puppy and I enjoyed laughing at Holly as she attempted to wrangle an over-excited pup in a classroom of over-excited Prep/1/2’s. All in all, everybody (including the dog) was well behaved.20130614-115324.jpg There were some great packages awaiting me when I got home. First and foremost, a package from Kellie over at give a girl blog! I have to say I am absolutely in love with her stamps! Kellie does a really fantastic job of putting together stamp sets that you will use over and over and over again. I am particularly fond of the My Buddy stamp set. Both CJ and I take a ton of photos of our cat,┬áMica, but until now I have never had stamps to go with them. DO NOW! I also plan to use the doggie stamps when documenting Benson’s trip to school. Seriously, do yourself a favour and go get yourself a set, any set, they are all great! I also received my Pier order from Simon Says Stamp. I know the Pier collection is off-season for us Aussies right now, but it’s just too cute to pass up and I can’t wait to play with the slides and tile letters.

On a technical note, you may have noticed that the site has had a little down-time lately. Well… the reason, my lovely readers, is because my little group of visitors has grown exponentially. This is the first month I have ever exceeded my substantial bandwidth. CJ and I corrected the problem for the moment and we are working on a long term strategy for the increased traffic. I do want to thank you all though.┬á I love, love, love reading your comments and interacting with you. I want this site to be awesome and to be a place you want to visit every day.

Project Life Week 6.

This week is simple in design but it gets the point across.20130613-065123.jpg Week 6 was huge for my family. We were approved for our new house and we began to get ready to move. My little sister Anna took her first overseas trip to New York. Anna spent a year or so living with CJ and I, when she was a teenager. Since then she has grown up and started her own adventures but she will always be a big part of this family.

20130613-070336.jpg I knew going into this week there would be a lot of photos and not a great deal of time to put together a spread. My craft supplies were one of the first things to be packed. I decided to concentrate using as many photos as I could. In the edit however it became very clear that some of the photos were more overpowering than others. I remedied the problem by turning half of them black and white.

20130613-071000.jpg A theme I tried to carry though into the journaling as well. I’m not to sure how I came to decide on the blue and green accent colours. I suspected it was probably the best of what I had laying round.20130613-071315.jpg This card has the dubious distinction of being the only one I ever remade. The original card sat in the album for 2 months but it annoyed me every time I came upon the page. This card was very quick to make and much cleaner than the last. I even like the black marks from not cleaning the stamp properly.

There is a lot I like about this spread. I love the New York panorama. I also think the photo of the brushfire is very striking. I love that it tells Anna’s story too.
