Happy New Year!
I, like millions of others, suck at New Years Resolutions. I could not even tell you what last year’s resolutions were, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t accidentally accomplish them. I don’t have a very long attention span. No, it’s more than that. In truth, a year just seems like too long of a time span. I am rarely motived to tackle them in the first 6 months because I have 6 more months to do it, but by the back 6, frankly I have lost interest.
What I can do is make conscious decisions about how I choose to spend my time. Recently I have had the great pleasure of undertaking Elise Blaha’s I Choose class and it has really opened my eyes to my passive use of time. I really do believe that it is important to have goals but on a manageable time scale. I, like Elise, believe that I can probably manage a month. For January I have decided to dedicate my time to 8 goals across 5 categories: Health, Relationships, Creative, Routine and Job.
In some cases my goals overlap 2 categories. An example of this would be my goal to learn photoshop basics. This goal is not only creative but it is also beneficial to my job as I will be able to help out in the design side of our business a little more. By the way – yeah, I made the graphic above and that confetti brush. Props to me for a great start.
I should say at this point that I am not expecting a 100% success rate. You do not just wake up on the 1st of the month and become perfect at everything. My aim is to see progress in most categories, but given that this is a first attempt, I’ll take what I can get. Check back on then 31st and I will let you know how I went.
